Yuan Ming Yuan (the Garden of Perfection and Brightness) is located in the northwestern outskirts of Beijing. Known also as the Garden of Gardens, Yuan Ming Yuan served as a summer retreat for the emperor and his entourage, who stayed there from after the lunar New Year until the end of autumn.
