S.Koreans held in North crossed from China: group
(AFP) – – Four South Koreans who have been detained in North Korea had crossed the border illegally from China, a Seoul activist told AFP Friday.
The North earlier Friday reported it was holding four South Koreans for illegal entry but gave no details.
The four crossed the border between China’s Tumen city and Namyang in the North several days ago, said activist Choi Sung-Yong, quoting informants in China.
“They told North Korean soldiers that they came there to see Kim Jong-Il,” Choi said, referring to the North’s leader.
Choi leads a group of families whose relatives were kidnapped by the North in previous decades.
He told AFP he suspected the four may have been Christian evangelists but added he is seeking further information. Seoul authorities have said they cannot confirm the case.
